Laptop Care Guidelines

Whether you're using a school-issued device or a personal laptop, taking proper care of it helps ensure it stays in good working condition. Please follow these essential guidelines:


General Care

  • Keep liquids away: Spills are one of the most common causes of laptop damage. Always keep drinks and water bottles away from your device. If carrying it in a bag, store it separately from any liquid containers.
  • Avoid eating near your laptop: Food particles and crumbs can fall into the keyboard and cause damage or interfere with functionality.
  • Clean hands before use: Dirty hands can transfer grime to the keyboard, which may scratch the screen when the lid is closed.

Handling and Usage

  • Close the lid carefully: Before shutting the laptop, ensure there are no objects (e.g., pens, USB drives) on the keyboard to avoid screen damage.
  • Lift by the base, not the screen: Always hold and carry the laptop by its base. Lifting it by the screen can damage the hinges or crack the display.
  • Unplug with care: Do not yank the power cord. Disconnect it gently from both the laptop and the wall socket.

Maintenance and Security

  • Keep software up to date: Regular updates help prevent issues and improve performance. Ensure your operating system and applications are updated as required.
  • Prevent theft: Never leave your laptop unattended in unlocked rooms or visible in vehicles. Always keep it secure and with you.
  • Avoid heat exposure: Do not leave your laptop in direct sunlight or hot environments, such as inside a parked car.
